Paya Maga Highlands
Home to an incredible range of tropical bio-diversity, Sarawak is the place where you can get all of mother nature's glory in one place. From its beautifully untouched pristine beaches to its unchartered and mystical wildlife, Sarawak offers you a nature package that is more than just a destination. It's an experience.
The highlands comprises steep hilly terrain rising from 300 m elevation and reaching a maximum elevation of 1860 m at the summit of Gunung Matalan. The site encompasses the stretch of logging road from where the road begins a steep uphill incline past Gunung Do'a (c. 800 m) to the base of the Paya Maga plateau (1400 m). Along the lower sections of this road the forest is mostly secondary with an abundance of Macaranga trees, but at higher elevations the forest is less disturbed and comprises mixed dipterocarp and lower montane forest, particularly on the steep gradients. The Paya Maga plateau is mostly covered with montane heath forest.
